About

HïMY SYeD is Toronto based and has focused on making Toronto a centre for Islamic Banking and Finance. Conventional and Islamic Banks seek his counsel, both locally in North America and around the world.

Previously he was retained by the largest Muslim law firm in Canada as subject-matter expert in Islamic Finance.

Until 2010, he was Executive Director of the Canadian Muslim Civil Liberties Association (CMCLA).

He has been making short films and videos since childhood.

He is a founding editor of Torontopedia.ca, a City Wiki for his home town.

He also co-founded WikiSauga.ca, a City Wiki for Mississauga, the town next to his home town.

Inbetween running for public office, he speaks truth to power to those who hold public office.

To keep balance in his life, he may be found walking any of the dozens of Labyrinths he has created as part of his Toronto City of Labyrinths Project.

When doing none of the above he creates giant works of environmental land art, dubbed Giant Outstallation Art. He has been called Toronto’s Andy Goldsworthy.

During Ramadan 2011, he visited a different Masjid everyday in the Greater Toronto Area in which to break his fast. He blogged his journey at 30Masjids.ca.
