China has cracked down on activists calling for demonstrations in 12 cities on Sunday for a ‘Jasmine Revolution’ inspired by the protests throughout the Middle East and North Africa. Thousands of people remained in Cairo’s Tahrir Square on Saturday morning after ousted president Hosni Mubarak announced his resignation the previous evening. Many anti-government protesters have begun to clean up after weeks of demonstrations.
Meanwhile, people in cities across Canada gathered to hold celebratory rallies on Saturday afternoon.
